Mary Bielski

Mary Bielski, Key Youth Speaker at Steubenville Summer Catholic Youth Conference:

In 1976, over 1,000 Catholic youth gathered for a conference at Steubenville College for a time of listening to music and youth speakers, and re-energizing their faith. Nearly twenty years later the conference had reached over 12,000 students. By the summer of 2011, the number had grown to over 40,000 youth in eighteen meetings all over America.

Theses conferences give youth a chance to encounter Jesus and make decisions that will change the course of their lives. Key guests in the past have included recording artist Amy Grant and Pope John Paul II.

A current favorite of the Steubenville Summer Catholic Youth Conference Christian youth speakers is Mary Bielski. Mary is young at heart. She speaks in a manner teens can relate to, using humor and pop cultural references.  Her style is fresh and creative, using honest life stories and engaging her audience to think for themselves about what it means to know God and to follow Jesus.

One unique thing about Mary's messages is that unlike some Christian youth speakers, she is never condemning. She doesn't overanalyze sin or spend too much time talking about what not to do. Instead, she reminds the teens of who they are.

In one of her messages, Mary speaks about Pope John Paul II's "Theology of the Body," a teaching written to 129 different audiences on life, love and human sexuality.  She reminds students of what is good and true in a world where so many are fixated on darkness. She tells stories of her former self, trying to find meaning and purpose she later found in Christ, saying, "I didn't even know how to be human."

Mary has special sessions just for women on sexual purity entitled, "Getting down with Jesus." Other youth speaker topics include: living in community, prayer, and the Holy Spirit. Whatever the topic, Mary Bielski brings love and energy to the Catholic faith, causing students everywhere to have a lasting impression of who God is.

Bielski is one person who stepped into the role as "traveling companion" to young people on their journey of faith.
